My driving license is due to expire July 2013. Do I have to replace it prior to this date as I have been informed my license might be invalid in it’s present form.

You will or should be sent a reminder 6 weeks before the due date. Otherwise contact the DVLA and ask them. DVLA 0300 790 6802

In this case I’d wait until mid May and then give them a call. I certainly wouldn’t think about changing or applying for a photo licence right now.
