Do you need a program to use Microsoft Office 2003 files?

Question by Kerry E: Do you need a program to use Microsoft Office 2003 files?

My dad has just installed Microsoft Office 2007 on his computer but some of his documents which he thinks may have been created using Microsoft Office 2003 (namely Excel) are not opening on his Microsoft Office 2007.

Does he need a program or update to do this? I have updated his computer with microsoft but it doesn’t say there are any critical updates, any ideas?

Why give me a choice of Upgrade or Customize if I am installing the Full Edition for the first time? Why not give me an option to Install or Customize?
