Do i need to get the professionals in to deal with my mould problem?

Question by JJS: Do i need to get the professionals in to deal with my mould problem?

I have lived in a 1 bedroom flat for the past year and other than some condensation and small (manageable) amounts of black mould around the windows everything has been fine. In the past 8 weeks thick green mould has been appearing in various places in the bedroom – everywhere else in the flat is fine. The mould first appeared on the blinds on the window and a fabric suitcase kept on top of the wardrobe. We threw all of these things away and have scrubbed the area down with bleach and are now using a dehumidifier and keeping the windows open all the time. However last night I found more mould growing on clothes and shoes inside one of the wardrobes – all of which I have now thrown away.

The only causes I can think of are things we have introduced to the room recently, the wardrobes were purchased in July but were brand new, and I brought an Ivy plant into the bedroom at the end of August.

Is there anything else i can do or do i need to get the professionals in?

Your doing everything I would do. With air circulation it should take care of the mold. Black mold is not good, it can make you ill.If you used bleach, at least ten percent it should have taken care of the problem.

Hummmmmm! There has to be an under laying problem here. The window sills and under them. If this is a rental ask the landlord to check under the sill’s for mold. Behind the window sashes. A professional wouldn’t be able to get into these places and you’d be tossing your money out the window that’s causing it, the mold. It has to be “under” something if you’ve done everyhting properly.

Spray with Lysol and clean with bleach, everything again, between the cracks, all over then see what happens. Good luck.
