Question by Duke: How do you know if you have a copy of win 7?
If it makes any difference its Windows 7 Ultimate edition. A PC repair man says its a copy but amazon say that they got it from Microsoft so cant be.
I want to see for myself if it is or isnt. Besides saves me having to hunt down the number for the repair man since it wasnt me that sent it to the guy.

The best way to check is to see if you can do a Windows Update.
Before allowing any updates, the windows update server will check to ensure that your copy of windows is genuine. If it isnt, then Windows will not update, it wont stop working but you will see a message about it not being a genuine copy.
If the update goes through then the copy is genuine and you’re PC repair man is mistaken.
I assume that you bought it from Amazon (not one of their marketplace sellers) as Amazon’s prices are usually just as good. If you did purchase it from Amazon, then it is extremely highly likely that it is a genuine copy. If the update fails, then speak to Amazon about it as they should have sold you a genuine copy (which they get direct from Microsoft).
