Question by djbennett999: How do you connect a second hard drive to a Windows XP PC using IDE to get files off?

Basically hard drive has stopped working. How do you normally connect a second hard drive to a Windows XP PC using IDE to get files off and are there any good tools, techniques or software for retrieving files off a hard drive that is playing up?

PC HD converter, comes in a box for about $ 25 plugs into a USB port on the PC,not as fast as setting the HD on Slave and plugging in to the IDE cable but its easier to connect, had a similar problem ,I found another disc exactly the same that worked and swapped the little circuit board with the 2 plugs[IDE and Power] and it came back to life long enough to Copy all the files I wanted another suggestion that did not work was putting it in the freezer for a few hours that works I’m told if there is a small crack in one of the Platters,Best of Luck
