How do you make open office the default program to open microsoft office attachments to emails

Right click the same type of file on your pc
Select open with..
Then ‘Choose default program.’
Select ‘Open Office’ as default program.
This should then be the default program even in oulook etc.

I’ve been working as an IT officer for a company for 3 years and now I have an opportunity for professional development i.e. the company will pay for me to take a course to improve my knowledge, skills etc.
Can someone recommend any courses?
My job is basically to maintain the IT system and provide technical support. It’s only a small network
(even the “server” is just a Windows 7 computer with a shared folder) but it will need to be improved/extended as the buildings are developed.
About me: I have a BSc (hons) degree in Computer Science.

Are there any Trade Magazines for the IT Industry? I’m sure there must be; in which case, they will probably carry adverts for various courses.
